I was in the library when a teacher came to ask us to turn on a TV to see what was happening in NYC.
The next day or day after we had a prayer meeting at church where the members of the mosque next door came to join us as a statement of friendship. A friend told the story how she was supposed to be on one of those planes but ended up not going.
A neighbour lost a number of coworkers.
In MA everyone knew of someone who was affected.
A couple of weeks later I got to visit Manhattan and the crater.. saw the flowers laid out in parks, met people who talked about how this had made Newyorkers come out of hiding to embrace each other. There were sympathy declarations from just about every nation on earth..
There  has been and still is terror, tragedy and devastation somewhere every day.
In  brief moments of history we see the love, solidarity and care we are capable of in time of need.
I long for the world where this is the rule, not the exception.
We have this in us…. as well as the other
